Installed TB on new laptop.
If I click on a message, instead of reading it in the preview pane, the message opens, meaning I have to close it before can read the next.
Is there a setting I can change?

That's should happen when you double click rather than single click.
What have you got under Tools, Options, Advanced, Reading & Display, Open New Messages in:

Yes, but as the 'Medway Handyman' surely you should be able to sort it yourself thus saving a few quid?
Have you got the preview pane on? (press f8 to hide/unhide)
