Switched FCU query

Do all the domestic style (square white plastic surface plate, BS1363) switched and fused connection units have double pole switching as standard?

Some seem to explicitly say they do and others don't mention it.

TIA

No, some are single pole. Check the packaging before buying.

Can you name one that is single pole switching?

Pretty certain current ones are. But it may not always have been the case.

In days of yore, all were single pole. They have been double pole for at least twnty years.

Double pole socket switches seem to be pretty new. The thinking is that with the socket, to isolate, you pull out the plug therefore double pole switches were unneccessary.

Thanks Dave (& Adam via PM)

I now read that BS1363 certainly states that IF a switch is fitted, it should be double pole. In fact it refers to them as Switched Connection Units and that they must be fused. Not seen SCU mentioned elsewhere though. I guess there could be rogue non compliant ones out there. I'll possibly order from Toolsatan then returns are no problem if it not suitable.

BS 1363 -1995 pt 4 definitions 3.3 does say that a switched fused connection unit must be double pole switched.

The relevant part of BS 1363, namely BS 1363-4:1995, requires DP switching, so the answer to that should be an emphatic "no".

No, and searching for BS1363-4 shows they should all be DP now. However, I've taken out some before that were SP, so there may be some still out there for sale.

Switched connection units are not the same as socket outlets. We used to call them fused spur units.
