Anyone fancy running a sweepstake for when we get the first knackered 3 port valve of the season?

Christian.
Judging by the post from AMO, we've already had it!

Yes, it appeared moments after I hit send!

Does this posting ;-
From: "AMO" Newsgroups: alt.consumers.uk-discounts.and.bargains,uk.d-i-y Subject: OT: Boiler Problem Update (what is a 3 part zone?) Date: Fri, 24 Sep 2004 09:06:59 +0100 ... count for your sweepstake?
Did anyone win?
Yes I did, unfortunately, the pot contained only the one pound coin I'd put already in.
Christian.
Having designed my own heating control system, I included a procedure in the programming to operate the mid-position valve every 24 hours if it's not been used for real, with the intention this would stop it ceasing up during the summer (it only handles heating zones, not hot water provision). I did wonder if this might wear it out faster. It's around 4 years old now, but has only had this 24 hour cycling in the programming for the last 2 years.
The boiler claims to do this with the pump too (although I've never actually noticed it doing so).

or "how do I make my own fireworks for 5 Nov"
Owain
On the lines of 'how to make own fireworks' I normally have a bonfire and generally try something spectacular to light it. Last year we had a zipline with a flaming ball running down it to start the fire.
This year I intend to have a plunger (like they use in films to initiate an explosion). I have a few ideas how to use this to connect a circuit that would make a nice bang and set the fire going. The best one so far is to use a toy rocket motor wrapped in petrol soaked cloth.
But knowing the ingenuity of this group I thought I would see if there were any others.
Thanks
Tim

How does that work; do you have the heating on for five minutes or something?

Or the first knackered Potterton PCB? Although I think I'd win, as it's my next post.

It might be worth considering powering up the pump every day to reduce the possibility of seizing up in the summer

Join the queue, as there's been a steady run on them (mainly Suprimas) all through the summer, some of which are readers of uk-diy

They've grabbed my last post in under a minute. I think some (c) signs may be in order.
OK, let's do this one...
