Luckily last afternoon I could find no damage, but my Gardener and I heard something hit my window very hard while he was clearing stuff with his device. Is this a common problem with these devices, this was petrol driven. Brian

Yes, they love whipping-up gravel and stones.
They throw in one direction only in my experience. Choose direction of travel to avoid glass!

We've broken two patio door windows with stones flying from a ride-on rotary mower and our boat had a window broken by a strimmer being used on the adjacent bank.
Oh yes, it's hell if you have a greenhouse with contractors cutting the grass nearby.
I've had a CD eject from a desktop PC, narrowly missing two of us & smashing into pieces after hitting a glass door on the other side of the room.
£120 double glazed unit smashed my me using my petrol strimmer earlier this year:-(
Really? If that's the case think of the damage a toaster could do to the ceiling.
