Some years ago really fancy bottle openers came on the scene, boxed and very effective. I have two given to me as gifts.
EWhen I moved home five yea5s ago they were stored in my loft. Yesterday I went uo to get some tools and on a whim brought one down. When I went to use it I found the rubber grip had become very sticky.
When I told my wife she said that old rubber goes sticky. I haven't experienced this before but what dO I know. Can I overcome this does someome know?

You can temporarily get rid of the stickiness by wiping with a cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol, although the stickiness will reappear in time. The simplest and cheapest way is to use talc (now corn starch) rubbed all over it. Once again, though, the stickiness will eventually bleed through.
There's a plethora of cures on the 'net. Which work depend on the plastics and plasticisers...
I can think of three off the bat:
-- cover it up (cornstarch, talc, a wrap of something)
-- soak it off (white spirit, orange terpenes, IPA, ...)
-- scrape it off (knife, card scraper, steel wool, pot cleaner, old credit card...)
Mix and combine them, too... so soak in white spirit, scrape off, etc.
