One of the tweeters of my 20 year old ATC SCM10 speakers appears broken - it's a lot quiter than the other.
I've contacted ATC - they can supply replacements at about £130. Or I can buy what they tell me is the same thing - D27TG-35-06 tweeter, by Vifa - elsewhere for about £35. So I'll go the 3rd party route. Two questions:
The faceplate of the ATC tweeter is circular, cut level at the bottom, to sit flush with the woofer. The Vifa is circular. Is it a simple matter to swap the faceplates and use the original ATC plate with the Vifa gubbins?
There's an equivalent of the (Chinese) Vifa built in Denmark by Scanspeak for about £10 more. Would it be worth the extra?

Ah. Have you tried swapping it with is opposite number? Its rare for a tweeter to fail by volume. If it is genuinely quieter, can you get a replacement dome and voice coil?
Or is the coil rubbing? dismantle and fiddle?
OK. lookes like a nice silk dome tweeter with some power hanfling capability
Ah. I had that problem. With a pair of failed 44 year old Spanish mid range units. I managed to just get replacements from Australia, - new old stock - BUT they had black anodised faceplates. Mine were brushed...
Noprobs. I though,. I'll just swap them
The screw holes didn't line up...I was already £250 into this repair...
I scratched my arse and phoned a friend, yes, he could 3D print an adapter ring that fitted both halves...so he did and it all went together perfectly with the mid range done simply set back about 4mm.
Well it is. like my mid range units, a three hole fixing.
If the pitch circle is the same, you are in business, If it isn't you will have to do what I did, and beware, the front plate may be actually holding in the tweeter dome and voice coil and this has to be accurately located. Therefore your adapter ring will need to take that into account if used.
One more caution. I have replaced tweeter domes in two sets of loudspeakers, In both cases the repaired tweeters now sound different. But not enough for me to bother to fit the second replacement domes (they came in pairs) to the other.
Knowing what I now know, I would buy *two* replacement tweeters at the low price and swap the faceplates. I feel 99% sure they will be a straight swap.
I am just pointing out that they *might* not be.

Looking at your photos, it *appears* so, assuming the mounting holes that fix the bezel to the driver are in the same place.
However you could probably just cut the bottom of the circle off the new ones to fit if the fixings don't line up :-)
IME the Vifa ones are not bad... I acquired some speakers that had similar tweeters, and one was knackered (I think the previous owner had blown a crossover, and then tried wiring the drivers direct to the input. I expect the tweeter demonstrated its displeasure by letting the magic smoke out!). The working side sounded good though. I sourced some Morel MDT 30S units to replace them since I could not find an exact match at the time. Turns out they were an easy swap.

No, not yet - but I will. reasonably convinced it's the tweeter though -had a similar failure on a similar speaker (SCM7s)
I'll have a go! But for the price I think the replacement is probably safest.
Yep, good thinking, I'll check the measurements carefully.

I'm just wondering if anything's glued, or it's a reasonably simple case of removing the screws.
Ah, hadn't thought of that! For the sake of £200+, definitely.
The treble is the speaker's main (but small) limitation IMHO - it's a bit 'obvious'. But the bass/mid more than make up for it.
Once I've properly ruled out the crossover, checked the dimensions, etc. I'll order a couple of the Scanspeaks.

Crossover may be a possibility too.
