Solution for rubber lever covers ?

SWMBO had some new brakes fitted to the chariot a couple of years ago.

Annoying on one the rubber cover - not available separately - has disintegrated.

Does anyone know of some way to re-cover the lever with something. I have vague visions of bits of hosepipe, but the end needs to be sealed nicely.

Is there some other source - possibly for a completely different application ?

TIA all.

What cross section dimensions is the shaft? Is there a bulge on the end under the cover or is it straight?

Wondering about things like car gear knob covers and similar. If the gear knob is too big, maybe there are handbrake or similar covers, or some auto cars have a smaller dash mounted selector.

For DIY, a squash ball would have a rubbery feel. Could maybe drill one out and fill it with something of appropriate squishyness. Silicone?

Build it up with self amalgamating tape and sprinkle some talcum powder on it afterwards to kill any residual stickiness.

The tape is available in various lengths for various retailers, Screwfix, Toolstation Amazon etc. Probably best to go for 10m roll.

If you buy some, as a test wind it around something like the end of a pencil stretching it by at least 50 % as you do so. Leave it for 30 minutes and then try and get it off :)

I think mouldable silicone rubber exists...

Make a female mould out of e.g. Plasticene and stick the handle into the rubber while setting

plastidip? hockey-stick tape?

If it doesn't need to be soft then "designed to fit a standard 22mm frame" makes me think of a 22mm push fit stop end

Looks as though the rubber end to a walking stick might do the job, depending on size.
