Just opened a new smart plug ("Eightree") and I noted with interest in the app that one feature (presumably off by default from my guess) is "Overcharge protection" which will switch the plug off it it draws less than 3W for 40 minutes.
It was paired and ready to use about 30 seconds after plugging in.
