Sheets/custom shapes of Tyvek

Tyvek is a kind of paper-like material.

I recently bought a wallet made from a single folded sheet of Tyvek , and I wonder if it's possible to make a few myself, by hand.

I assume that there are different grades and thicknesses of the stuff, so if I bought a roll from eBay for example, it might not be suitable for my purpose.

But what I'd really like is to find a source for sheets cut to a pattern of my own design.

What sort of supplier might be able to do this for me?

It's certainly very tough - I had to trim some bits when I fitted windows in a tiled wall that had just been retiled by a roofer.

It was impossible to tear it - but a stanley cut it OK.

Laser cutting sounds like one way for medium production - but for one offs, sharp knife and rubber sheet or high quality shears?

Laser cutter or water jet cutter. TheY#d both cut a thick stack of Tyvek like nothing, though the heat from the laser might have some adverse effect.

Se if you have something like a "Make Lab" or "Fab Lab" nearby -- clubs with such machines that members and sometimes guests can play with.

Brilliant wallets. Wouldn't go back to leather now.

Instructions here.

Tyvek cuts easily with a blade, can't you just cut that way ... or do you need hundreds of same shape ?

If you only needs a few .. cut a template out of cardboard .. and run scalpel around perimeter to quickly knock out what you need.

Hi Daniele Tim+ has already pointed you at the relevant instructable... (have you, or others, seen the designs for wallets made from Gaffer/Duct Tape?) ... but just to say that I am after a 'short roll' of tyvek for other purposes.

The roll quantities that I see on eBay (for building purposese) are a lot more than I need ... if you decide you need half a roll or so anytime, give me a shout, I'd be interested in the other half ;-)
