Setting up mobile phone

Hi all, I bought a mobile phone online that is for the hard of hearing, but am having problems setting it up.

is there a local rate number (for the UK) such as speaking clock or something like that I can practice dialing up and getting the settings right? Any help received with thanks, Mick.

0800 0232635 (should now be free from mobiles) will get you a "someone from the department for work and pensions tried to call you" recorded message.

Thank you very much, I can now keep trying as I try to set the phone up, without annoying anyone. Mick.

Check with your network provider. Not all give free calls to 0800 numbers. Calls to your own voicemail are usually free.

The one I have used as a test number for the last 20+ years is

0800 55 66 77 The message continually loops and never hangs up.

Phone your landline and get someone to talk to you?

I'd already noticed the change in the help line info offered at the end of BBC programmes that have covered sensitive social issues where the phrase "some mobile providers will charge for this service." (0800 numbers) has been dropped sometime during the past month or so. I just assumed that the mobile providers have been barred from charging for 0800 calls just recently.
