My daughter lives in Liverpool and her boiler stopped working so she called this company (24/7 Best Emergency Services) at 4:00pm and a woman quoted her £50 call out plus a small charge for the job itself (she was expecting £100ish in total) the plumber turned up at 21:00 and was there for 10 minutes. In this time she made another call to the company (which took 4 minutes) because she was told she had to pay £275:00 so she wanted to query it because it was far too much money for the job done (he never even took his tools out, it was simply re-attaching a small pipe which was already there) and she didn't have enough money to pay it. The woman on the phone couldn't have been more rude and dismissive and said it wasn't her problem and that it was my daughters and she had to pay up immediately. The plumber then said (after my daughter showed him her bank balance with only £130 in it) that if she paid £100 now he would cover the rest til she paid him back the week after, so of course she felt awful and paid it. This smells like a massive scam to me and I'm absolutely livid, and of course there is no itemised break-down bill to be seen, so, with a call out fee of £50, a simple 5 minute pipe reattachment cost £225 and she STILL has to pay another £175.

I have just had the same scan, £60 call out fee, plumber turned up and £195 per hour which was never mentioned, received a call from a lady via a mobile and she called me a f@#king bitch, refused payment and she apparently is sending someone to my house to collect the money .. absolute scammers
Then don't pay! It does sound like sharp practice at the very least. Try reposting your issue to uk.legal as I'm sure someone there can assist you. But for now... DONT PAY them.
