Failing all of this, I guess I could get a 240v AC to 5v DC transformer

is a simple 12V to 5V buck converter, that you could connect to the 12V battery


Thanks TNP... The transformers seem like a good thing to try as then it removes any direct intervention with the alarm circuits and for a couple of quid worth a try. The buck converters were my original plan as I was going to power it off the aux connectors on the alarm board until I came across the 2 amp issue :)
