While shifting some hay bales this afternoon a stray thought about answer phones crossed my mind.
How do the recorded message versions know they have reached an answering machine?
What would be the effect of an answer phone message *hello* followed by a several second gap and then the phone tone for a 9 which is a common
I'm not sure if the standard message recorder could record the tones well enough to work. Brian

[I sometimes get part of a recorded spam message on my Voicemail so I assume that they don't all detect this]
I hadn't noticed that "9" was an option offered to opt out, but I am prepared to believe it if you say so.
However I am FAR to cynical to believe it actually gets you removed from the database. On the contrary it is likely to flag your number as a live one, that is answered by a human rather than a machine.
