RCD tripping as light is turned off

Nov 12, 2004 2 Replies

It's an occasional nuisance trip. Only happens as the kitchen fluorescent light is turned off, never any other time. It's turned off pretty well last thing at night so there's very little else still running to add much background leakage.

Any thoughts why turning something off should cause this.

Yep. Too sensitive RCD for the capactive load to earth.

Uprate the RCD (100mA?) and fit RCBO's to the circuits that need real shock protection.

Also check your light switch is not in the return (i.e. neutral) rather then the feed.
