Radiant Rings

The cooker has 4 spiral elements, 3x2kW and 1x1.2kW; the little one has failed. It seems easy to get a replacement (seem to 1.1kW now - and the others are

1.8kW - typical nowadays). On Ebay there's none on 'click and collect', so I might have to be here for delivery and that's difficult for me.

Do electrical factors stock them? I've found only one and the price is 2 -

3x that on Ebay or UKwhitegoods.

Also, they're all crimp terminals (mine are screw) and I'm guessing that my brass crimps aren't suitable for the temperature and possibly not for the (nichrome?) wires. What sort of crimps would I need and would a manual tool do the job?

Which cooker and are you referring to the radiate rings which look springs wound in a spiral?

I?m pretty sure I have an unused element from a Creda cooker lurking in the loft. Not sure of the rating but I think it is one of the large diameter ones. The cooker was a Solar 600 from memory, it had a glass hob.

Often Ebay sellers have Amazon Marketplace shops.

Arranging delivery to a different address such as a workplace is also possible.

Is that the difference between being rated at 240V and being rated at 230V or 220V now?

Seems possible that the rings have had their ratings re-assessed for 230V (rather than the former 240V). Which could mean that the rings themsleves are absolutely identical. Which would, if true, undermine the "typical nowadays" comment.

our postman left a "to be signed for" ebay package on our doormat yesterday. We were at home but he didn't even ring the doorbell.

Yes, the spiral, smaller than the 2kW ones.

Could be - hadn't thought of that.

I've had that sort of thing - and a package that cost north of 300 quid, fully tracked and sig. needed - just thrust at me and the driver didn't stop. There's a chance that small value like these won't need a sig. - I'll get in touch with a seller.

Much more concerned about the crimps though.

The ordinary copper crimps (spade terminals) don't last long, the relax and burn out. The ones needed are stainless steel I think. The ordinary crimping tool won't look at them.

When I ordered a ring for my cooker on more than one occasion, the parcel was flat enough to go through my letterbox.

That's useful to know. Trouble is, I'm considering ordering 2 :-( I doubt that a sig. will be needed, so I'll put a plastic box by the front door.
