Question re mice in house

Prior to tiling the kitchen floor (recently moved to this house) I caught 4 mice under the floorboards on the ground floor. I may have caught them all I may not so my question is... When I next go on hols I would like to shove some poison under the floor, I am sure I shall find some little holes somewhere that I can do this. If not I could drill a hole somewhere and then plug it. If there are mice there and they die how long before they would smell (assuming they would) and how long before the smell would stop. As an example if it would take a week before they smell I would put the poison down 1 week before going on hols and hopefully the smell would be gone after 2 weeks. I have blocked what I think are any possible entries into the house. Under the floorboards is dry and draughty. I am doing this as a precaution rather than knowing I have mice.

Few dead mice under the floor do not smell significantly IMLE. A big fat festering rat corpse does though.

Even a big fat rat soon decomposes.

A recently dead rat in a loft in the summer smells somewhat worse.

indoors @20C, time to smell a few days, time to stop smelling a couple of months or so. I dont think you'd notice it in your location. And if you're tiling, no need to plug the 1/4" hole you drill.
