Carpal tunnel syndrome might often/usually be an overuse problem - but it is also possible to suffer from it due to hypothyroidism. People have even been operated on by experienced consultants in the misguided belief that their CTS needed an operation where they really needed suitable thyroid hormone replacement. (This might not technically be CTS but if a consultant is unable to distinguish then perhaps there is no meaningful difference except etiology?)
