Position of electric cooker point

Can anyone tell me if there are rules governing the position of a cooker-point switch in relation to the hob? At the moment the switch is just to the side of the hob, but I'm planing a re-vamp of the kitchen that will result in the hob going directly in front of where the switch is now. Would this be breaking any rules?

It would obviously be inadvisable to use the 13A socket in this position, but if that's the only issue I can replace the switch/socket with just a switch. I could also fairly easily move the switch up higher (it's fed from above) if required to keep it away from splashes etc. I'm not clear on whether it's supposed to serve an emergency isolation function, or is just for service isolation. If the latter I can't see that directly behind is a problem.

Moving it sideways would be a major pain!

TIA

Needs to be 300mm away from edge of hob.

Thanks - I take it that means 300mm in any direction? The present switch is no way 300mm away horizontally (in fact it slightly overlaps the hob). 300mm vertically would be fine for me.

No, that means 300mm from the edge in a horizontal direction, not vertically I am afraid.

Great - so even the current installation doesn't comply :(

Maybe it did when it was installed, the problem with ever-changing rules ...
