ply suspended ceiling ......

I want to tidy the cellar ceiling area. Currently flaky old whitewash etc painted joists, covered in ch pipes, wiring etc etc.

So I need to suspend the ceiling by 5 inches and have it removable / sectional to enable future access to said pipes, wires etc.

I'm thinking 6mm ply? Painted white.

What/ how best to manage the 5 inch suspension?

Yes. Although 6mm ply will sag a bit in 18"+ widths. You should be able to purchase rigid foam inserts.
