Plastering courses in west yorkshire.

Hi guys. I want to learn plastering, in order to undertake domestic tasks to a professional finish, not for a living etc.

Are the 4 day courses any good. i can find a local one in west yorkshire for about =A3400. but i don't see how one can learn this in 4 days or am i wrong?

I have plastered before onto plasterboard etc and it's not coming out any good or smooth.

Does anyone know where i can start to learn this trade to a professional level. Part time courses would be best.

Many thanks in advance.

Are you sure these are not top up courses for people who already know the ropes? Some plasterers go on courses to learn different application techniques and sometimes different products.

You can start by reading up past posts on here concerned with the trade.

Try Leeds College of Building in North Street

The 6 month GTC course turned out plasterers well capable of doing a first class job. None of them were much good after the first week.

Hi guys... this post keeps going belly up... hope it hasn't appeared many times. The leeds college of building is just what i'm looking for.

it offers nvq's which are more useful but it does mention that you must be employed in the industry. Are they any ways round this as i would much rather pay =A3700 for 20 weeks than =A3400 for 4 days lol.

GTCs (Government Training Centres) were abolished in the 80s. Quite controversial at the time as they turned out qualified tradespeople in 6 months rather than the 6 years of an apprenticeship. Full-time, free, and came with a 'living' wage - and the training was tough enough to produce some excellent tradesmen. Nearly 100% were placed in employment at the end of the 6 months but none of this was needed in the high unemployment days of the 1980s.
