Perks of the job

Bloke a few houses away is some sort of overhead engineer for E.on, just noticed he's using the cherry picker on their van to lop his trees!

Whereabouts is he? I'm about to go and replace some guttering.

I bet if you want to hire one of those there is a helth and safety course you have to do before being let loose with it too. It would come in very handy for all sorts of jobs. Brian

Brian Gaff, probably..

Second-hand ones on the back of Transits are surprisingly reasonable. If you were renovating a detached house with access all around they would be worth considering.

You need an IPAF, Its only a 1 day course.

To hire maybe....

I'd be insisting on any borrowed kit having a current LOLER cert....

If I'd bought a used one for private "light domestic" use I probably wouldn't worry about a certificate being a month or two out of date. I would place more value on "Inspect before use". Wouldn't let a tradesman up in it of course.

I did toy with getting one of those small moveable ones, they seemed to be around for about £1500 (in fact I still toy with the idea, it would be useful)

But there is the storage, maintenance etc.

I hired a Transit mounted one a couple of years ago, no course, just 10 mins of instructions.

Its the price of hiring them now Brian. Once they used to go by the hour now they want a full day.

Which is fine if you have a full days work which is rarely the case.....
