Partion or block walling ????

Question

Mate is building a megazone style arena in a old barn for his kids & friends to use

has asked me to build the obsticles that are played around my question is

would it be cheaper to build from studwork clad with mdf or go for blockwork ??

some of the obticles would be 4 foot high in a cross shape when viewed from above and some will be higher with a roof to form tunnels

i know that if he goes the timber route its prolly safer to use fireproof paint and this should also be kept in mind (not the cheapest product to buy)

any thoughts ?? the barn is approx 1500 sq foot and he wants it quite well filled

Timber and either ply or mdf, lots cheaper and quicker.

You can look at the costs and add them up yourself. But I would consider another option, papercrete blocks, as being cheaper than either of those.

A cubic meter of concrete blocks will cost =A35.50, plus a small amount of sand and cement. You then need to render both sides... unless of course you are just painting straigh to blocks.

If stud work with plasterboard then you are =A33.00 for board (both sides need it doing) and 2.2m of CLS timber with will cost about =A31.30... you will definately need to plaster both sides or just tape and joint.

If stud with ply then you are =A39.00 for board (both sides need it doing) and 2.2m of CLS timber with will cost about =A31.30... you will then just paint the surface.

If stud with sterling board then you are =A37.50 for board (both sides need it doing) and 2.2m of CLS timber with will cost about =A31.30... you will then just paint the surface.

So stud and plasterboard is slightly cheaper than block, but block is much cheaper than stud and ply. All prices are then plus VAT and abviously dont reflect build time.
