Painting Wallpaper

Is it possible to paint on vinyl wallpaper?

Yes, but sand it all over first to take the shiny surface off. Best to try and peel the facing paper of the vinyl and leave the lining paper underneath.

1970s vintage vinyl makes a great paint surface if you do as BW suggests and peel the shiny surface layer off. It splits surprisingly easily. I would suggest a lambswool roller to apply the paint which helps mask any areas where the backing has also been removed.
