Outdoor security lights

Good thing.

Those half-kilowatt halogen things were always a terrible idea except in a few specific locations.

Out neighbour across the road had one mounted on the front of his house. On windy nights we didn't need to switch on the lights in out bathroom, his floodlight was more than enough - even after filtering through the window-blind.

My one consolation was the shock he probably got when he opened his next electricity bill.

It also stops boiler plumes operating the lights if you put the PIR somewhere sensible. Typically you put the PIR about 2.5m up and the lamp

5m up.

I think 6 10W LED lights would give a 500W halogen a run.

True enough but I'd say those having 150 W let alone 500 W of halogen "security" light have too much light. It doesn't take much light to make some one visible. All such a high level of light does is stop you seeing beyond the pool of brightness.

IIRC there weren't (and still aren't) too many choices with halogen. Yes, they were always too bright

500 watt, 300 watt, 200 watt, 150 watt, 100 watt. Quite a reasonable selection.

The trouble is - the sheds started selling 500watt lights for the same price as a 300 watt and guess what the punters thought would be best..............?
