OT - sudden stop of SPAM to BT Yahoo account

A little puzzling.

I have a very old BT Internet mail address which has always received an enormous amount of SPAM over the years.

A few days ago this suddenly stopped; that is, SPAM emails no longer turn up in the folder I look at via the web page and they don't show up in IMAP either.

Something strange (and possibly quite significant) seems to have happened.

I wonder what?

Normal emails are still arriving so the entire account isn't blocked.

Cheers

Someone's changed a setting from mark-but-deliver to silently-drop?

And you are complaining? Are you sure that its still run by Yahoo? I understood Yahoo were now run by aol etc and bt had moved all the existing people over to whoever their new provider was. Brian

I posted here because there must be at least one other BT Internet user on here :-)

I would prefer the "mark and deliver" though because every week or so stuff gets wrongly flagged.

I am wondering prior to considering complaining.

One issue with this particular account is that BT have moved their normal subscribers from Yahoo to another provider (allegedly) but I am not a BT Internet user. I use Virgin Media because it is so much faster.

There is a facility to retain your BT Internet (and Talk21) email addresses by paying a small monthly subscription but these email addresses are treated differently and are still apparently accessed via Yahoo.

It is all a bit of a mess because usually (for this specific account) I can't log in via the usual BT Mail login page, but if I log into Yahoo then go to my email I get in O.K.

The support for these email accounts is also via a different support organisations.

At some point I need to migrate off these email addresses but we have had a group of addresses for 20-30 years now and replumbing will be a long and arduous process involving working our way around all the sites we are subscribed to and updating the email addresses.

It mainly works, so "if it ain't broke" tends to kick in.

what BT Yahoo account ?.

I thought we had all been dumped and forced into BTs own awful email package ?. I certainly was. My Yahoo login using my snipped-for-privacy@btinternet.com stopped working ages ago.

Looks like some are and some aren't. I've just checked the headers of some recent emails from three people with btinternet.com email addresses:

Received: from [77.238.176.101] (helo=sonic301-24.consmr.mail.ir2.yahoo.com)

Received: from [77.238.179.150] (helo=sonic304-25.consmr.mail.ir2.yahoo.com)

Received: from [65.20.0.226] (helo=rgout05.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk)

Yes - my BT account changed from Yahoo some time ago. And has never had much in the way of spam. But I only ever download from it so have no idea what may or may not be in its spam box.

If you delete a post without opening it, posts from the same address afterwards go into the spam folder.

Seems to have started up again in a limited way, with most subject lines being something like "G-e-t y-o-u-r V-i-a-g-r-a H-e-r-e-!".

Slightly reassuring.

However sad when you are relieved to see SPAM.
