OT: scooter throttles

Just saw a bit of video where the rider get knocked off his scooter at some lights because the driver unexpectedly opened his door. He then helps the rider up and holds the right-hand handle-bar to stabilise the scooter so the bloke can get back on. The scooter then runs away and hits the car in front.

Are scooter throttles such that to open the throttle it has to be rotated towards you? Thereby guaranteeing that if you hold that handlebar loosely the scooter will run away from you?

It's not a throttle, it's an actuator to a speed controller. Neither is it an ETC or ECM.

They are typically twist grip or thumb trigger.

If you twist the hand grip yes, just hold it without rotating, no.

Don't you have something similar on yer mobility scooter dear?

If it's a 'motor scooter' with an automatic / transmission then yes, assuming the engine hasn't stalled or the kill switch applied.

If it's a(n electric) mobility scooter see my previous reply.

All of which comments say more about the people who make them than about the car marque or the peoplewho drive them My father-in-law insisted Ford drivers were the worst on the road

Possibly because most reps drove Fords.

Which was back then true, but then there were no Audi or BMW cars on UK roads to take over that title.

Well it says a lot about both.

Where I heard the term first was Johannesburg, where it was *the* car to steal....

For a long time Volvo was the car to avoid, but it is now Audi. There was a period in between when beemers were very badly driven.

Used to be Jaguar - all driven by book makers. A very apt choice for our PMs these days.
