OT: Restore Thunderturd profile

Anyone have any hints on restoring a thunderbird profile? I have the saved profile directory structure (simple copy as per on line instructions).

Followed further on-line instructions to copy into the profile directory of a new installation but Thunderbird just will not recognise the mail files.

Does the Path=xxxxx.default entry in the profiles.ini file point to the new xxxxxxx.default folder?

I just copy all the files ( and folders) in the .default profile folder. Re-install Thunderbird ( or install on a new PC). Then delete the files and folders in the .default folder created and replace with backup versions.

The name of the profile .default folder is left with whatever has been created by the installation.

I backup my thunderbird email files by deleting all unwanted emails, compacting then saving a zipped copy of the files/folder in the profile ####.default folder.

Thanks. I shut down left it for a few days and then it all worked as expected. I can't for the life of me think what I was doing wrong the first time.
