Nope value for money and buy the product to suit the job with price/performance in mind. That is why I bought a Prius, and all the stars drive them too - so I am naturally super trendy as well.
Only plebhead drive diesels.

That's simply untrue Andy, Drivel often says he buys expencive products, trouble is most of them seem to fall into the 'expencive crap' description - hence, assuming he isn't lying, he owns a Prius...
Anyway the real issue with vehicles like the Prius (and to a lesser extent any current motor car) is whilst using them decreases certain emissions the production *and disposal* of the vehicle (or time expired components within) actually can create even worse pollution - often in countries that are not equipped to deal with the consequences of such pollution.
What has the US got to do with the UK?
'Intelligent ones' - which excludes you obviously - would realise that their type of motoring, pricing of fuel and vehicles etc is nothing like the UK. Plus the fact that up until recently diesel cars were actually banned in some areas.
Doctor Drivel ( snipped-for-privacy@nospam.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
Without logic and mature debate such as this, where *would* mankind be today?
Ooozzzzing with logic!!!!
I am a natural debator - as I am brighter than you.
I dread to think.
Please eff off as you are a worthless idiot troll.
Just shows why you're the laughing stock when you pronounce on things like tools too. And central heating. You have *absolutely* *no* *idea* when it comes to value for money. Which simply proves you only read adverts and have no practical experience of any of the products you promote. Sad, really. Information gleaned from adverts is often worth passing on. But not when you claim it as experience of that product.
Most of the noise is from the road not the engine and gearbox.

At a gentle cruise, perhaps, where the CVT will drop the engine revs down fairly low.
But if any power's actually required - and bear in mind that any kind of keeping-up-with-motorway-traffic is not far off the Pious's top speed - then the CVT will chuck the revs up near the power peak and it gets very intrusive very rapidly.
Nor is it a 'nice' noise to those with any mechanical sympathy. Or blood in their veins.
I think most would agree you are a master debater.
Please eff off as you a worthless idiot troll.
Exactly!!!
Please eff off as you a worthless idiot troll.
You mean the "power-splitter".
In a Prius, yes. In the likes of manual diesels (yuk! spew!!), that is not the case.
So we can add modern manual diesels to the list of cars you've not driven?
Doctor Drivel ( snipped-for-privacy@nospam.com) gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying :
I mean the CVT transmission.
Please eff off as you are a worthless idiot troll.
