OT: More Courier Hell

We have had couriers sit outside for some minutes because the system wouldn't let them deliver before the allotted time. Then we used to get others that couldn't receive a signal but that doesn't seem to happen now.

Friend had urgent need of a sleeping bag delivered to a boatyard in a North Wales town , we saw the Amazon van look at a height barrier he would have fitted beneath turn around and drive away circa 1400. Contacted Amz and later got told they would attempt redelivery and about

Amazon allow for your phone number be in the delivery instructions. I've had a few phone calls over the years asking where they can leave the package.

I've also known the delivery instructions disappear for no reason and had to reinstate them.

There was a case of déja vue yesterday. All the other problems had been resolved, and then yesterday afternoon, Parcel Force delivered a package that was clearly marked as to its intended recipient and her address, about 200 yards down the road. It was very heavy, and was just leaned against my doorframe, which is 2 feet from the road. I could have got it into my car, but then I could not have got it anywhere sensible at her place. Parcel Force were of course well hidden from anybody trying to contact them, I finally found advice that said to call the so-called Customer Service number, and just not respond to the prompts. Eventually I heard a bot, saying that I was in a queue, with about a 50 minute waiting time. I waited, getting on with my other life, and after 40 minutes, somebody came on the line, and proceeded to listen to my tale. I had by this time written the name of the intended recipient in large felt-tip pen on the package, so she would see it on her way past the house as she walked home. At this moment, her husband walked by and stopped, and said he would go and get his car. So I had both Parcel Force and the owner getting ready to deal with this. When I explained to Parcel Force that the owner was on his way to collect it, I was told that that was not to happen, they would send a truck. I replied that if the person with her name on the package came to collect it, I was certainly not going to stop her. The agent almost went apoplectic, but had no power to make me keep it for Parcel Force to collect it at some unknown future time and date, to take it 200 yards away. They had got it totally wrong once, was I supposed to leave it outside my front door for them to get around to collecting it at some unknown future date? That was not going to happen. The owner and her husband loaded it into their Land Rover, and took it away, happy. My plan for the afternoon was by now dead, but that was ok, I was glad to help somebody I knew with Courier Hell. I think it's spreading like the Pandemic.
