Mere latecomers, after (excluding other than Homo Sapiens) the Beaker People, Celts, Picts, Angles, Frisians and Saxons, not to mention the Romans. Of course, to ignore all of those, Migrationwatch has to set its start date of immigration at 1066. However, 8000 Norman French arriving after the conquest probably (estimates for 1066 vary) increased the population by a greater percentage than 252,000 immigrants in 2010.

+1 Exactly. You left out the Jutes by the way. Not to mention various flavours of Goths and Visigoths.

Back in AD 400-600 we had an open door immigration policy too, and anyone with a herd of pigs, and enough lusty warriors could carve out a bit ofEngland and call it 'home'.

Of course then, with a population density of about one person per thousand acres, there was room, and it wasn't worth dying over.
