OT David Mackay dies

As pre-figured in this newsgroup Professor Sir David Mackay has died.

He was probably best known as the author of Sustainable Energy - Without the Hot air:

although he also had an distinguished academic career and was the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Department of Energy and Climate Change. In this last role he seemed to inject a great deal more common sense than had previously been apparent.

His lasting legacy may well be that the UK scraps renewables and goes 'nuclear' before almost every other country in the world.

If so it would be a fitting legacy.

A sad loss. We, and by that I mean the UK, possibly the world, will be the poorer for his going. He brought refreshing clarity to the energy debate and exposed some very woolly thinking in some quarters.
