OT appliance repair

Can anyone recommend a forum/group where I can get advice about repairing a ppliances? We have a Bosch condensing dryer that has developed a smell. I h ave cleaned out all the filters, coolers and venting passages I can but sti ll the smell persists. Although I can undo several torx screws some parts s till seem reluctant to move when these are removed and I am wary of prising at things in case I snap off whatever is holding the parts in place.

Ta! Richard

Thanks Peter for re-finding that website for me. I had used it before but following a change of PC lost the link.

What is the smell like though? could it be an actual part that is disintegrating? Brian

The smell is musty much like the build up of damp lint that builds up in th e cooler. Earlier today I gave the cooler a good going over with the pressu re washer, this forced out more lint. Since inserting this back the mustine ss has been considerably reduced. I still think there is a further build up in parts I have not been able to access.

There is a bacteria or fungus or something that can suddenly infect coolers and generate a smell. Car aircon is common target and you can get a spray to kill the infection, although it might not be suitable for a tumble drier. It happened to my home aircon unit once a few years ago, and I switched it over to heating mode, which killed whatever was causing the smell, and it's never returned. This is very much more likely to happen if any filters have been removed so dust sticks to the cold condensing surfaces, but it can happen even with good filters in place. I often repair dehumidifiers at repair workshops, and they can be in a tragically manky state inside if filters are missing or holed.
