The oil for my clippers has just run out (literally - seems that the bottle is about as oil-tight as a Royal Enfield or Sunbeam S7/8!). Went to Boots, only Philips spray stuff/cleanser at £silly. I hope that the oil isn't just light mineral oil - not the sort of stuff I want on such implements.
Is there a 'special' oil and a source? Can't seem to find anything useful.
Baby oil would probably do and it would be safe for skin contact - it is just a mid mineral oil.
If it were me, I'd just walk half a mile to the Wahl UK warehouse!
Seriously....I'd try a specialist razor shop. They have that sort of stuff too.

Thanks. From the feel of the original droplets supplied, I thought it might just be a rip-off and was plain oil. Vegetable oil would be OK if it didn't set. I did wonder about biodegradable chainsaw oil, but the quantity would be ridiculous and the clippers might get ideas!
Good idea that man! I wonder how the manufacturers get the babies for squeezing for oil (same for baby powder).
My S8 was overhauled by the factory in Putney in about '67 but still leaked
- I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the distributor so that the points weren't submerged. Mate's S7 always leaked. Going on tour was a treasure hunt for straight 50. The only oil-tight one I ever saw belonged to the lass who ran the factory.

Not quite hair clippers but a while back I had a beard trimmer. Not sure if hair clippers work in the same way but basically these were miniature hedge trimmers - two toothed plates rubbing against one another. And yes its a clich? but the odd drop of WD40 now and again worked wonders. My beard never fell out anyway and I doubt it would do that much harm to hair either. But there again, someone just posted about their binoculars smelling bad. I thought the story would be that they'd dropped them into a septic tank or something. But no just an oily smell. So what do I know ?

An update: on an impulse I bought a bottle of Johnson's Baby Oil and it seems to work. Tried it on the cheap trimmer and the speed increased noticeably. Now to see how long it lasts.
