Noisy header tank

Hello

I recently had to replace the 25 year old ball valve in my header tank due to it not shutting off fully. The new valve shuts off ok but generates a very high pitched whistling when the tank is filling which is quite irritating at night when someone has had a shower.

One difference I've noticed is that water exited the old valve from its underside, whilst water exits upwards from the new valve and is diverted back down via a short plastic tube. Apparently this is required by new regulations? I've tried playing with the water pressure and I've also tried fitting a rubber tube to the valve but neither of these measures has much effect.

Can someone recommend a silent ball-valve or is this a problem they all have?

Thanks Thomas

Try a farm supplier - I bet their ball valves for troughs don't have this feature.

You could try a torbeck type of valve, these are very quiet in operation

polly filler

  1. change the rubber washer
  2. clamp is firmly to something solid
  3. wrap pipe in absorbent material
  4. Fit a valve somewhre around halfway along the supply pipework, and turn it down till the noise stops.

Usually 1 does the job, if not progress down the list.
