Neat finish for a hole through sheet material.

I have to feed some cables through a 1" (or thereabouts) hole in a cabinet. In normal use only one side of the hole will be visible and I'd like to make it look as neat as possible, so I need something tubular with body that fits through the hole and a lip that hides its cut edge.

The annoying thing is that I've done this before, but it was years ago and I can't remember what I used, though I think I bodged it up from a plastic waste pipe fitting (I recall having to drill a hole in the "lip" part, which was solid).

Searches online and rummaging in DIY shops haven't turned up anything suitable, so any suggestions will be very welcome, Thanks.

might help. I think you're looking for a grommet, and they come in all sorts of sizes.

question I found the answer (or one answer, at least):

Confusingly though, these are described in the heading as "25mm hole" and in the text as "approx. 2.3 cm/0.9 in. outside diameter, approx. 2 cm/0.8 in. inside diameter and approx. 1.2 cm/0.5 in. height".

The cable hole covers designed for cable holes through desks etc might do - although the nicer looking ones are typically a larger diameter. There are some simpler 1" ones with a quadrant of springy plastic in the middle

Missing the target in t'other direction, I've used grommets like the below (though mine were brass effect)

Thanks. That's very close (finish apart) fromn what I was envisaging.

Thanks, John, I've just found (and bought - the extravagence!) these:

Yes I have used grommets for this. Often though the rubber is quite soft, and they are not thick enough, so I slice of the end you would not see, and glue the remainder in the bit of the hole you can see. I've even seen them with what look like little petals on the inside for those occasions where what you are feeding though is not actually circular. Brian

I know you have bought some but there are also these from Toolstation & £2.69 & £2.99 for a pack of 5
