Well IME there's "ebay price" and "elsewhere price", and elsewhere is often a faction of the cost - it just needs more effort and it might take a lot longer to find what you want.

Decision was ... I bought an Aidetek VC97
Seems well built, very large & clear LCD, ...
Has a protective rubber bumper around case, supplied with a simple zipped carry case, reasonable long probe leads, shorter set with croc clips and a comes with a temperature probe as well.
Worth noting tht this is a an EC class II device in terms of accuracy, many of the cheaper ones are only Class III.
All in all seems remarkable value for £24
