Metal bar tolerances

I need a longer steel bar to fit an existing slot, measured the existing bar that fits the slot with a vernier calliper at 13.0x3.0mm

Ordered a length of 13x3mm stainless flat bar, only to find when it arrived it is 13.8x3.0mm, which doesn't fit the slot, is that within normal tolerances for metal stock? I don't want to widen the slot.

No. You sure it's 13.8 and not say 9/16" etc ?

Don't know haven't got any imperial callipers.

Minor brainfart in original message, ordered 12mm and received 12.8mm but that makes me think they've supplied 1/2" rather than the ordered 12mm.

Having just measured it again, it *is* 12.7mm with about 0.1mm of deformation right at the ends where it's been guillotined.

Thanks, I'll have a word with the supplier ...

Yeah, that is clearly what has happened.

And double checking the thickness it's 3.1mm so 1/2"x1/8"
