In Excel (and many other computer applications) 3.7e6 means exactly the same thing. The "e" is a convenient shorthand for x 10 ^. Can also be upper case E.

n represents a *general* exponent ... what's 5^2 ? 25 of course, what's 3^3 ? 27 what's 4^n ? without a value for n there isn't an answer.
