Not everyone over 50 is stone deaf you know. Though those that have been to too many rock concerts may have lost a lot of the high frequencies.

I did a lecture on sound a while back and with a mixed age audience the children still had hearing up to 19kHz sine wave adults dropped off between 10kHz and 15kHz for the most part. Mine is still good to 16kHz.

It is one of the tricks some places use to disperse teenagers from locations where they are not wanted. PA system broadcasting an annoying high frequency sound just out of the adult hearing range. Mosquito.

If you align the leads to 0.15" apart or fold them back on themselves a couple of times they don't

ISTR It was in an old cotton mill somewhere near Rochdale or Burnley.

Motorola, Zilog, Intel, TI, Signetics, Ferranti and a load of others. You got wodges of A5 pamphlet pricelists with highly coloured outers. We used a lot of Motorola parts from them.

They appear to forget that sounds like that aren't just audible to teenagers.

If your baby won't sleep then you need a spectrum analyser or a five year old to check for such pollution and then get them done for doing it.

Depends, how many students could you teach soldering too, in 15mins. considoer you have a class of 50 studetns and 20 soldering irons.

That depends on the course the studetns are doing the above as computer science studetns how spend their time typing on keyboards they want to do computer science.

I agree that's what out skills lab was meant to do, but on wednesday only about 3 students turned up.

Very heart-warming I'm sure, but not much to do with the assembly of computers in factories.

If the student has to have a go at this, they might be minded to wonder how circuit boards are actually made. A bit less magic, a bit more reality.

Isn't that the usual complaint that schools teach people things that were relevant a generation ago, not modern stuff? Same problem in economics, physics and probably many other disciplines not just in computer science.

They haven't changed the laws of physics for a while. Computers haven't really changed much in the last few decades either.

Manufacturing has changed quite a bit.

Why not Mil Standard 1750 LSI 11 PDP 11 clones? :-)

Back in Summer 1978 I re-"assembled" the Ferranti F 100-M. Many hours re-doing the backplane with wire-wrap. It was the medium-scale integration (think 74xx series) prototype of the F 100-L.
