In almost all cases, you'll find a label with the model number in the refrigerator section, generally on the hinge side of the interior wall just inside the door.

It’s not really sharpness that you need to spilt logs. The “obtuseness” of the axe is probably more important.

If you look at proper log splitting axes they are much “blunter” in profile that a chopping/cutting axe. This help to split the log open. A slim profile sharp axe will just tend to embed itself as it doesn’t generate enough force to separate the fibres of the wood and “burst” the log apart.

A combination of a proper log splitting axe, a smaller hatchet to use a a easily placed wedge and a grenade will split most things.

Absolutely wrong. I wouldn't be alive to write this if what you say were true. The major health risk to a diver using a rebreather is a failure of the CO2 scrubber, resulting in excessive CO2 in the rebreathed air, toxicity, and a fatality if the diver can't surface. Almost all rebreathers use "nitrox", a mixture of pure oxygen and pure nitrogen. I know. I've used these devices.

Actually, the symptoms of CO poisoning is highly dependent on the concentration of CO in the inhaled air. Relatively low but dangerous concentrations will usually produce a headache and/or nausea as one of the first symptoms. But extremely high levels can produce loss of consciousness as the first symptom.

I should have added that in some diving scenarios, rebreathers actually are charged with 100% oxygen.

Um, no. Nobody puts any CO2 in diving cylinders. Pure O2 is actually toxic over long periods. The higher the pressure you’re breathing it at, the more toxic it is. The presence or absence of CO2 doesn’t come into it.

Not entirely true. We have a “hypoxic drive” to respiration but the CO2 is a much stronger stimulus. We all rebreathe a certain amount of air because of the “dead space” in our lungs so CO2 levels in our lungs and never falls to zero.

Yes. My sister-in-law had been getting bad headaches and suffered from chronic tiredness for some time. She suspected a problem with a wood-burning stove in the kitchen and bought a CO detector with numerical display (FireAngel CO9D). The stove was fine. However, it turned out that an open log fire in the living room was emitting large amounts of CO through a defective chimney. The CO managed to find its way into an adjacent flue via defective mortar in the brickwork and seeped into one of the bedrooms which has a fireplace. The CO level in the bedroom was around 400ppm when they measured it (with the alarm screaming at them).

I once developed a very bad headache while SCUBA diving. Subsequent investigation found that the person who had been operating the air compressor (powered by a petrol engine) had not been properly instructed on the need to ensure the air intake was always upwind of the engine exhaust.

I once tried re-breathing air in a bag which was connected to a CO2 monitor. At around 3% it became very unpleasant. I could only tolerate it for a few seconds by the time it reached 5% which was the upper limit of the monitor. The sensation was an uncontrollable urge to breathe really fast combined with considerable discomfort. Under these conditions the blood becomes very acidic. I find it very hard to believe that submariners could routinely cope with CO2 levels of 5% or more.

It is incredibly unpleasant. If you do a distillery tour, one can experience the feeling by dipping one’s nose into the air in a mashing tun. Leaves you gasping like a fish out of water. I can’t vouch for any experience of prolonged exposure though. I’m prepared to believe that one might be able to adjust to raised levels over time.

In that case, I can clearly see that the flame is not blue and I would do something about it.

Mate of mine came within an ace of killing himself. He was testing an unvented gas heater that was temporarily in his main room in winter. It worked fine so since it was quite a cold day, left it running. His DiL rang him and when he didnt answer a couple of times when he was expected to, came around in person and found him unconscious. She is a senior nurse and knew what the problem was likely to be. Pure fluke that she happened to ring him then.

Took a long time to recover fully.

Well, we didn't have much automatically when I was a kid.

If that was true, why didn't everyone die with coal gas? That's CO before you even burn it.

See when you walk into a place and feel bad. Leave it. It's not rocket science.
