Oddly, I first saw one just over the border from Windsor - I was working with a US company in the Detroit area and one of the mechanics showed me one and asked if we used them. He was an old car collector, although I don’t think that old.

They're widely used for pocket hole joinery.

I don’t doubt what you say but I was given the impression when I was shown one - admittedly circa early 1987 - they had fallen into disuse and the person who showed me one wanted to know if I could help source some from the UK.

I did buy a jig to make neat joints while I was in the US. Unfortunately I loaned it to someone and it wasn’t returned.

I intended to replace it on a later, holiday, trip but forgot. Not sure I’ll make another trip now. As much as I love the US and the flights are ok but the hassle of airports isn’t.

Having bought a jig and some screws last year I did notice the resemblance but wasn’t concerned enough to see if they were to the actual Robertson standard or a lookalike. I’v being trying to remember how I knew about the Robertson being Canadian despite never going there, possibly because when at Primary school a school chums dad was a Canadian who stayed here after WW2 married a woman who didn’t want to go there and worked a farm and I have a feeling he had some Canadian equipment sent over and explained things to Dad. Interesting chap, had worked as a cowboy and used to entertain people at the village fete etc demonstrating catching cattle using a whip from horse. My school chum also had a toy shotgun that though it did fire any projective you put oil or diesel in it and it made a bang that put our cap guns to shame. He brought that across from Canada.
