I have some windows to paint, and the sills are made from stone so to fill the joints is linseed oil putty OK to use? Or is there a "better" product to use, if so, why is it better?
I already have the putty on the shelf as I am replacing the knackered quadrant round the window pane with putty.

It's good for many uses, including this. The only caveat is that a tiny %age of folk find their fresh putty gets eaten by birds.

Yeah, I use linseed oil mixed 50/50 with white spirit on old bike frames to 'preserve patina'.
Interesting! I shall employ the neighbourhood cat to patrol. I have seen crows pulling the synthetic sealant out from brickwork gaps before. Felt bad for them.
I've had magpies pecking at the mastic round my double glazing.
I've had to replace putty around several windows, usually the culprit is a young Magpie. They even attacked some putty that was probably more than 50 years old.
I'd try car body filler (Isopon etc).
I'm not surprised by that
