Lighting in a hall

Are downlights a bad idea on a narrow hall? I realise fixed ones willprobably make the walls look rubbish - can I get away with it if I useswivel fixings and angle them towards the walls a bit? The walls willbe newly skimmed. The intention is to use led bulbs rather thanhalogens so I don't fry the tops of my tall friends heads and/or heatthe room up in summer...I assume that, unlike halogens, there is no advantage to using lowvoltage for LED bulbs?

This Victorian house has a rear addition with ceiling heights lower than the main part of the house. So access to those rooms is via a half landing.

Yup. Same terminology applied to winders in stairs - so a quarter winder take them round 90 degrees, and a half wind (less common) doubles back.
