Leaking CI guttering

Is there an easy solution to this, or is taking down the affected sections and re-puttying the only one.

In a 60ft run, fortunately single storey, I've had to do two this summer and now another two are dripping. All far apart so it would appear to be coincidental.

Must be the wrong kind of water. Horrible stuff, take it down and flog it and get some plastic stuff put up. Brian

Yep!

Simple clean the inside and outside edges of the affected joints and put a bead of silicone mastic on bothe sided - pressing down with a wet, rubber gloved finger to get the mastic into the leak[s] - ensure you clear the surplus mastic from the inside of the gutter.

Please bear in mind that this is supposed to be a temporary measure, but I have seen such joints still 'sound' after some 5 years.

As an aside, unless the CI gutter is in a really sound condition as a unit (and that includes the brackets and fascia), I would suggest that you budget for a complete replacement, as the bloody stuff when rotten, has a nasty habit of suddenly falling off the fascia in heavy gales or snow - or even when you 'break' a joint to reseal it or renew a length.

Been there and done it, and had it fall off from a pair of two storey, semi-detached houses - and even off post-war, metal bungalows.
