Lawn Tractor manuals?

We've charity locally that has recently moved into some ex-farm buildings, does 'Arts' stuff, and has workshops for musical instrument makers/repairers. There is some grass(about an acre or so) I 'found' a LTD 11hp 38" lawn tractor (1990's) that had been out of use for 5+years. I volunteered to keep grass cut... It has worked with minimal maintenance for over a year, but my initial attempts to find manuals, so as to do an overhaul, and find correct belts have drawn a blank. Initial cuts on an area unloved for several years were hard on the cutting belt! Neither local dealer nor national 'LawnFlite' reply to emails.

Help!(is there a more relevant newsgroup?)

Don't recognise that one but am in a similar position with a Laser. V belts normally have the size printed on them; mower dealer shops are likely to charge inflated prices but just plug the code into eBay and you should find plenty of belt specialists. Normally a letter defining the cross section and a number defining the circumference (measured, I think, at the mid point).

Similarly if you need bearings. Just had to replace the cutter deck bearings on mine, you could be asked for a tenner each. Mine happen to be a skateboard size and cost, if I recall, about £8-50 for ten.

The engine will normally be a Briggs and Stratton or other well known make, plenty of info on line. If it isn't labelled (unlikely) post a link to a picture and someone will tell you what it is.

This is the effective length, whose name escapes me at the moment. It defines the length according to where it meets the pulleys, and is used for calculating the exact gearing of a set of pulleys and a belt.

No idea if it's any help, but have you tried Mauritron.com for the manual?

It may be worth trying a local agricultural merchant/dealer for belts. If you take an unbroken (ideally) one in they will probably be able to find you a match for it - and you'll then know what size you need in the future.

uk.rec.gardening (I think that's the name) may also be able to offer you some assistance generally.

MTD by any chance?

Alton's garden centres used to do lots of Lawnflite stuff, so it may be worth trying them.

You can also often get belts etc on ebay.

Other brands owned by the same makers include yardman and agrifab IIRC.

If you follow the UK link from :

you get to :

Thence:

which has a dealer search...
