Labels of furniture boards

B&Q label every board giving a description of what they are (16 or

18mm, size etc).

The trouble is getting the b...y things off.

I had to use a chisel today before my wife took over.

Is there something that will get through the label and soften the adhesive?

TIA

I understand the pain :(

Wickes white furniture board panels are the same nuisance.

They are labelled with a thin paper 2" x 3" sticker, with a strong glue impossible to remove without tearing the label into crumbs.

Also the label is overprinted with two colours of ink, black and blue. The blue ink bleeds through the paper and stains the melamine faced board, needing lots of isopropyl alcohol and rubbing to remove.

The glue eventually shifted with that sticky stuff remover fluid that smells of oranges, but a huge waste of time dealing with it.

You can buy label remover:

I certainly found that similar stuff worked well to remove labels that had been stuck on a wardrobe door for years.

You can get citrus oil based label remove sprays. Spray them on the label and leave to soak for a bit. They penetrate and soften the glue, making it easy to peel off.

(not quite as good on plastic ones - but very good for paper (which are normally harder to remove anyway))

The one I use is by Ambersil

Not tried it, I wonder if rubbing orange peel on would also work

I usually find I can peel the plastic layer off, leaving some kind of paper backing. Then apply the Ambersil.

WD 40?

Well, I tried everything except the orange peel on something like thirty B&Q labels today.

I had a heat gun (unbelievable value at £12 from either Screwfix or Toolstation in 2020). It was slow but did the job.

The hard part was getting to the remaining gunge off.

WD40 does work but petrol is better. I haven't bought lighter fluid since 1970 but I had a can from my late father. It is also best for permanent ink (separate thread).

I needed lots of rags. Mrs Pinnerite was very obliging.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Alan
