Hi, can someone tell me what would be a good model of the above to but for cleaning driveways etc. There are so many different models it is difficult to chose one.
My local Makro was doing a K5 520M Plus for £150 + vat. Anyone know if this is a decent offer or do I not have to go as powerful as this?
Find the Karcher patio/driveway cleaning attachment if you can. It looks like an upturned washing bowl and has a pair of jets that rotate with the water pressure - bit like a dishwasher. What's clever is the water driven fan that forces air downwards thus keeping most of the muck on the ground and lightening the weight on the end of the lance and thus your arms. The bowl is edged with draught excluder bristles to keep a bit more of the muck on the ground.
I got mine from Makro for IIRC £30-ish and was very sceptical until I used it. It's much more efficient and effective at cleaning slabs than simply going over them with the lance. It's a bit less destructive on the inter-slab pointing and distributes less of the muck over the surroundings and you get very little spray-back when you hit the odd angle in the gaps between slabs.
Sounds like a good deal to me. Check to ensure it has an induction motor, not a brush/universal motor. Induction motors last 5 - 10 times as long. I reckon it probably has, but check.

I'd agree 100% but make sure you sweep the patio first - they are very susceptible to damage from small stones getting caught in the rotation - all the plastic lugs inside get broken off.
that the one you mean ? I have googled but not found anything else. This looks like a comercial thing - it's about £200... Is there a "home" version - I can't seem to find one?
That's pretty much the same. Except that mine is in the tradmark yellow plastic and far more flimsy. I suspect that it was not a success and was discontinued. It isn't here (I share it with a friend) so can't look for product codes instantly. Would you like me to enquire?
There was something very similar in Homebase, Carisle this afternoon. Not having a patio that requires such treatment I didn't pay much attention to it other than "That looks like the PW patio cleaning device mentioned in uk.d-i-y."
Also need to get a PW first the K2.89 they had looked OK and I did like the detergent bottle fitted to the main body rather than free standing. Do they do an angled head? End fire is OK for most things but I feel an angled head would be much more convient for under the car and in the wheel arches.
Karcher produce a lot of models identical except for minor variations.=20 This allows the sheds to buy a unique model which they can then=20 advertise with the slogan "Find the same model local for less and we'll=20 give you your money back" or somesuch.
Pressure is only part of the equation. Volume is fairly important also.=20 More volume and less pressure is better than the reverse.
I noticed this is B&Q the other day, but the do have an "exclusive to B&Q" note of the description/price label. It put me off buying until I checked the karcher website for full details, manuals, service etc. karcher website can't find the B&Q model numbers (Knnnn) or the product code number (n.nnn-nnn on the rating) plate. That really put me off. If Karcher don't recognise the unit how easy will it be to get spares in a few years time after B&Q have moved on their models? The Homebase K2.89 that I saw yesterday is known to the Karcher website...
If they use that on an exclusive product but branded (not own brand) product it doesn't rest well with "fair trading" regulations IMHO. Though I've not noticed that sort of statement near any products, it's normally well away from them at or beyound the checkout.
Sneaky these Germans - they change the cover shape, model number and the accessory package for each 'shed', so "you can't buy this cheaper elsewhere". Basic pump & motor stays the same.
The B&Q ones don't look like any other models. I go with Mr Lang, the functional bits (pump and motor) will be from a limited range of motor powers and pump sizes but the body mouldings and supplied accessories are all be different.
I don't like it, it confuses the market place far to many "brand" models to choose from. Why don't Karcher just make and badge 'em PerformanceProPower or WHY?
The sheds have done this in the past with white goods - a Hotpoint wm (or whatever) that has an exclusive model number, thus you can't find it cheaper elsewhere - in reality it's more or less identical to another. Sounds like the same trick here.
off - then when I turned them on I didn't read the popup properly and just looked at the left hand side thinking it was all the same unit... Doh...
Is it just me or is the Karcher site a pain to use? There does not seem to be a detailed area for accessories. There are accessories listed with each cleaner but it's very limited information.
It's not the best and the .co.uk bit has a habit of wandering off into German at times. What I find annoying is the lack of an image in the long list of variants, so you can't tell which are uprights and which aren't for example. Wheels are given away by M in the model number but thats only good furtune really. Also if looking at a model and you ask for the manual you have to enter the model number, it should know the model number from where you came from.
Hum, I was think of saying it's not a "pain" but on reflection perhaps it is.
They did. The el cheapo £39:99 green thing was supplied via Karcher I believe, although they didn't make it. B&Q are now big enough to go direct to China for their own label and are replacing Karcher with these. My bet - inside a year 80% of B&Q pressure washer sales will own label.
As they say in business, if you want loyalty - buy a dog.
