Just how wrong the press can get the details

Looking at the tyre fire at Sherburn in Elmet, the reports vary from

15,000 tyres, to 1,000 tons, to 1,000 tyres. There was even a report I read of 100,000 tyres.

Doesn't it cost 50p to dispose of a tyre?

I think it's more like a couple of quid. But that's the cost to add to a pile like the one in Sherburn in Elmet.

How about 15,000 tonnes?

Anyone who has been quoted in the press has no need to be told how far from the truth the news reports can be.

I'd say that the 15k tonnes is about right.

Maybe we should be asking "How much does it cost to dispose of a carpet"? The carpets being stored for recycling at Thrunton Brickworks, in Northumberland, have been burning since 3 September.

Perhaps the report er was tyresd? OK the spelling is wrong but I never let that get in the way of a bad pun.
