Java issues and web cam

I'm having similar issues with my XP Desktop, as with my Win7 Laptop and it varies as to the extent of the problem....

As the browser to view the cam, I'm the latest version of Firefox. As either PC tries to load the picture from the cam, I often get a Application Blocked by Security Settings. Its the same whether looking in via my network or from outside remotely.

The login page comes up, I login, then see this pop up.....

Application Blocked by Security Settings

Name A Location (my cameras IP address)

Your security settings have blocked an application from running with an out-of-date or expired version of Java.

I have tried updating Java numerous times on both PC's, but it seems to fail.

I usually get to the picture by clicking OK, once, sometimes several times.

Anyone know of the fix please?

JimK formulated on Saturday :

How?

I have been into Firefox's settings, and had it allow the IP for my camera - which makes no difference. Are there any separate settings for Java security tucked away somewhere?

I have now found the Java panel in Control Panel and added the cams IP.

The complaint it comes up with, looks a little different and maybe less reluctant to go away, but it is still complaining.

Delete Java and then install the latest version? That might clear this complaint.

Though I think a security prompt is always given if there is not a suitable certificate for the java app.

I have also found that for some weird reason on 64 bit machines, sometimes both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of java are needed and both configured. This certificate problem is not just Java though, it seems to randomly affect perfectly ordinary web sites erratically. I blame the hyper sensitive windows security system myself, it seems to cause more issues than it solves. I imagine if you actually eventually cannot access anything you have 100 percent safe e system.. grin. Brian

There are many technologies that need to die. Java and Flash are two of them. It's a PITA but it's doing you a big favour as an out of date Java runtime is a sure fire way of getting a drive by web nasty.

Try uninstalling your Java runtime and any updates completely, then reinstalling with the latest release. Real shame the camera requires a Java applet to view.

All the Netcam makers I've come across are still using ActiveX. Java would be a luxury.

It's odd really - these people can make a decent bit of electronics but them hire dinosaurs to write the web interface.

With HTML5/AJAX none of this bollocks is necessary.
