My daughter sends me photos from her camera and I try to optimise themfor photoprinting. I often find that the final photos end up too dark,even when I tweak my computer monitor brightness.I know I can buy additional equipment to help with this, though I'mnot keen to.Would printing the files on an inkjet printer provide adequateexamples of how the photoprint will ultimately come out?

The final photoprint is also an inkjet printer. Only specialistprinters might use a dye-sublimation printer, but the self-printconsoles in Boots and Jessops (are they still going ?) areinkjet.If your photos appear differently on your computer monitorcompared to a printer then turning up the physical brightnesson your monitor is pointless. You might just as well turnup the volume on your tv, it still won't alter the actualdigital attributes of the photos. Only something likephotoshop or adobe photoshop elements can do that by alteringthe digital photograph itself and updateing its metadata.Getting a photo to print exactly as it appears on screen isa dark art. There are many factors at work, and the pros relyon some seriously expensive computer monitors and printers.

Inkjet print a good indicator of adequate levels for a Boots photoprint?

Lidl have Asus HD 24" monitors for £90 - on offer 19th Jan. HDMI and VGA inputs.
